This series of open days showcasing the highlights of Hungarian greenbuilding will be held between the 22th and 27th of September 2014. Besides the well-known examples of this field, which were already on the list of buildings the previous year, recently finished buildings and other facilities open their gates to the public: Vision Towers, ELM? Showroom or Groupama Arena (FTC Stadium). „Classics” of Hungarian green building, such as Green House or Odooo project can be visited during the guided tours, led by renowned indusrty experts, as well as recently finished Eiffel Palace or recently certified Dorottya Court – the latter being a novice of Green Walk too. Not only buildings in Budapest, but of other Hungarian cities participate in the event, eg. RATI building at Pécs or DEM at Debrecen. Many participating facilities are usually closed to the wider public.

With ever-tightening thermal requirements we are moving away from traditional forms of fit-out and making use of thermal mass to give free cooling. Taking the ceilings out may have thermal benefits, but can have dramatic knock-on impacts on working, learning and healing environments. In this workshop, we will concentrate on the acoustic impacts of exposed thermal mass and open the floor to a lively debate asking questions such as: is less really more?

Is it reasonable to consider energy displaced by plants as renewable energy? The benefits of greening buildings and cities using plants and landscaping is generally known and accepted. Cundall has completed an in-house experiment to quantify the positive impact of plants in and on buildings. In this workshop, we will identify the improvements to internal air quality and temperatures, reducing the need for mechanical systems. The resulting CO2 emission reduction will be highlighted, as will any impact on GLA targets.
