2014 Asia Pacific Leadership Awards

The inaugural Asia Pacific Regional Network Leadership Awards in Green Building, held in 2014, were sponsored by Shaw Contract Group, and were run in partnership with BCSD Singapore and the International Finance Corporation.

The winners were:

Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance

R0638.jpgTe Mirumiru, a bilingual childcare center in New Zealand, was chosen as the winner from a field of 57 projects around the Asia Pacific region. Te Mirumiru was designed by project architect Phil Smith of Collingridge and Smith Architects.

The passive building features include north-facing glazing, a super-insulated earth roof, rainwater capture, and a solar hot water underfloor system.  All spaces are naturally daylit and need no additional electrical lighting during the day.   The result is a building that is 70 per cent more energy efficient than a similar code-compliant building.

The building achieved a 6 Green Star rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council – one of only three buildings in NZ to attain this, and the only Green Star-rated early childhood center in the whole of Australasia.
