On October 18th, the Panama GBC hosted a conference and lunch event: Global Transformation of the Construction Industry Towards Sustainable Models, with special guest speaker Jane Henley.
Over 200 participants had the opportunity to learn more about the future of sustainable building, how it is evolving and how the construction industry at a worldwide level is transforming.
Ms. Henley explained the great potential of buildings to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with examples from ecological city of Masdar in the United Arab Emirates and an energy-efficient, low-income housing project in Kuyasa, Cape Town, South Africa (which is also a Clean Development Mechanism, or CDM, project). She also emphasized that countries will not reach their emissions reduction targets unless they focus on the implementation of their strategies to achieve better energy efficiency and the deployment of low carbon technologies.
