The Peru GBC held its first conference on April 27 and 28, with speakers from several Green Building Councils in the region, the WorldGBC, representatives of the LEED certified hotel where the conference was held, and the Peruvian Minister of the Environment.

The first International Summit hosted by the Peru Green Building Council was held at the Tambo del Inka, a LEED-certified resort nestled in the Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley) in the small town of Urubamba, Peru.

The two-day conference had speakers from the Peru GBC and WorldGBC as well as several other Green Building Councils, including those from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia.

Attendees were treated to special presentations from Claude Ouimet from Interface FLOR, who spoke of the moral imperative of sustainable building, and from Antonio Brack Egg, Ministro de Ambiente (Minister of the Environment) for Peru, who also presided over an unveiling of the LEED certification plaque in the hotel.

The WorldGBC Americas Regional Network also held a network meeting with the nine councils in attendance, establishing their strategic objectives and work plan as well as committee working groups to achieve their goals.

Everyone at this important event benefited from the content of the presentations as well as the valuable connections made during the two days. Sponsored by numerous organizations, the summit represented the best in industry leadership in Peru.

The summit concluded with a visit to nearby Machu Pichu and a traditional Inkan ceremony to heal the wounds of mother earth.
