Over the next few months there will be a tremendous amount of GBC activity across the Asia Pacific region. From 12th to 16th September the Singapore GBC will be hosting the APEC-ASEAN meetings, then their own International Green Building Conference at the Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore. Wednesday 14th September will see a workshop specifically for the Asia Pacific Network, addressing the issues of government collaboration, productive policies and essential incentives. With representatives from across the Asia Pacific, and followed by a Asia Pacific Network Committee meeting, this will be an important opportunity for governments and GBCs to come together to discuss the ways forward.
Also that week we see the GreenBiz 2011 'European Green Business Solutions for Vietnam', at the White Palace Convention Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In collaboration with the WorldGBC and private sector organisations worldwide, Asia Pacific GBCs will be celebrating World Green Building Week (19th to 23rd September) in a variety of different ways - from member evenings and site tours, to conferences and cocktail parties.
October sees many of the Asia Pacific GBCs, including the GBCA, heading to the WorldGBC Congress in Toronto (2nd-3rd October), immediately followed by the USGBC's Greenbuild Conference in Toronto for the first time. Later that month is India's flagship event on green buildings, the Green Building Congress 2011 (20th-22nd October) at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The China GBC also have a number of events over the next few months, including conferences in Tianjin in late September and in Nanjing in October.
Rating tools across the Asia Pacific continue to gather pace, with progress on rating tools from Vietnam's 'Lotus', the Philippines' 'Berde', Indonesia's 'Greenship' and China's 'Three Star' system, along with development of a new green building assessment process for the rebuilding of Christchurch in New Zealand, following the disastrous earthquake earlier this year.
The Committee will soon have been meeting for a year with meetings every few months, and with Research and Education Sub-Committees newly appointed we hope to be producing more work focused on the particular needs of the Asia Pacific region.
