World Green Building Week
From September 17 - 21 2012, the global green building movement will unite to celebrate World Green Building Week.
World Green Building Week shines a spotlight on the role that buildings play in decreasing the global carbon footprint and saving money, while also creating jobs, reducing poverty and improving lives.
Green Buildings for Great Communities
This year, 90 Green Building Councils representing more than 22,000 organisations will unite to highlight the importance of 'Green Buildings for Great Communities'. Green buildings not only benefit the people who live and work in them - they benefit the entire community.
Green buildings can support communities to become:
Sustainable: reducing the environmental impact of communities
Profitable: decreasing operational costs and impacts on municipal infrastructure
Prosperous: saving energy and creating jobs
Productive: improving the health, well being, learning and productivity of building occupants
Healthy: providing better healthcare facilities and reducing illnesses from poor indoor air quality
Empowered: reducing poverty, conserving resources and empowering local communities to improve their lives.
World Green Building Week 2012 will showcase how GBCs are applying the lessons learned from greening buildings to greening neighborhoods, whole communities and cities. By using holistic thinking and integrated design principles, sustainable solutions can be found for every site.
How can you get involved with World Green Building Week 2012? For GBCs, we will have an event registration page and a toolkit with facts and examples, logos and media releases. Get inspired for your events and activities by downloading the World Green Building Week 2011 Report.
For green building supporters, contact your local GBC to host your own World Green Building Week event and to find out how your organization can be part of the movement supporting a greener built environment.
