Africa Programmes Head
World Green Building Council

Vere is the Programmes Head for our Africa Region, focusing on delivering programmes to catalyse the uptake of a sustainable built environment on the continent with our regional partners, including the African Union. As part of the WorldGBC Engagement & Networks team, Vere works closely with the Director of Engagement & Networks, Director of Strategy & Development, Director of Advancing Net Zero and Head of Global Policy & Advocacy to support the Green Building Councils (GBCs) in the WorldGBC Africa Regional Network.

For green buildings, her career began when she was a part of the WSP-LUC-DHK winning team for the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace & Environmental Studies international design competition in 2010, where the institute was to be carbon-neutral. Since then, Vere has been passionate about net-zero green buildings that do less harm to people and to the climate and environment – understanding that Africa is one of the most vulnerable continents to climate change with women in Africa being disproportionately impacted. Working for multinational engineering consulting firms, Vere has been to 12 countries in Africa to support with the training and contextualisation of green building rating tools and the ongoing establishment and development of GBCs.

Vere works part time with WorldGBC while also co-leading Greendesign Africa – an engineering consulting firm specialising in the design, construction, commissioning, operations and certification of green buildings. As an ESG and green building consultant, her mission is to transform the building and construction sector across the WorldGBC three strategic areas – climate action, health & wellbeing, and resources & circularity – and she believes that GBCs in every country in Africa will be the catalyst for this transformation on the continent.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a specialisation in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town.

Vere is based in South Africa.
