What is Green Apple Day of Service?

On 28 September 2013, the Green Apple Day of Service will bring together thousands of students, teachers, parents and community leaders from around the globe to improve our school environments through service projects, education, community events and more. A vast network of champions will demonstrate the strength and breadth of our movement, leaving a meaningful and lasting local impact on our world’s schools.

Transforming Our Schools

When you look at our educational spaces, you see outdated buildings in need of repairs, burdened with unsafe toxins, dwindling budgets and outdated resources - in place of opportunity and progress. The Green Apple Day of Service enables volunteers to transform all learning environments into safe, engaging and comfortable facilities that enhance a child's ability to learn and a teacher’s ability to teach.

The Power of Volunteers

For the first annual Day of Service, approximately 169,000 volunteers participated in more than 1,250 service projects in 49 countries around the world to make our schools healthier, more sustainable places to learn. Volunteers are essential to our movement: green building professionals, educators, parents, grandparents, students and community leaders everywhere can work toward better school buildings, improved facilities and cost-saving practices through the Day of Service.

Thousands of Events

With more than 700 million children in a school building each day, there is no questioning the enormity and urgency of the task before us. The Day of Service will bring together individuals and communities to make changes in their schools and surrounding areas, and there are plenty of ways for you to get involved with this effort. From South Africa to Canada, Korea to Brazil, every school can be better served by our commitment on this day.

Green Apple

Green Apple is a cause-marketing initiative gives individuals, companies and organisations the opportunity to transform all our schools into healthy, safe, cost-efficient and productive learning places. The Green Apple initiative is powered by volunteers who participate in community-based efforts; promoted by media partners, like-minded NGOs and high-profile ambassadors; and funded by corporate partners who contribute a portion of proceeds or make a substantial sponsorship donation and receive the right to use the Green Apple mark to show their association with and support of the Green Apple initiative.
