A Message From The Africa Regional Network Chair 2

Wednesday 01st May 2013

In the last quarter we have received tentative enquiries from two new countries - Benin and Tanzania, so interest continues to spread.

Otherwise there has been a fair amount of activity in Ghana, Namibia and Mauritius:

  • In Ghana, the One Airport Square project is seeking a Green Star SA rating; the round 1 submission has been received.
  • In Windhoek (Namibia) a bank is developing a new office building, wanting it green rated.
  • GBC Mauritius is planning to do some further rating tool training in July this year with assistance from the GBCSA.

GBCSA Annual Convention and World GBC Congress, October 2013

Preparations for the GBCSA Annual Convention and World GBC Congress in Cape Town in October, are picking up steam. Global and local leaders will gather to inspire and educate delegates around green building and broader sustainability issues, offering advice to spearhead real on-the-ground change. A “Brainwave stage” will create a sharing environment between delegates, suppliers, students and entrepreneurs for vital knowledge between global to local and vice versa.

The programme is set to kick off on Tuesday October 15 and run until Friday 18 October. The theme is ‘Rewire, connecting minds, building value’, and it promises not to disappoint. GBCSA has organised walking tours, cycle tours and visits to new 6-green star rated buildings, as well as some really great speakers that will leave you inspired and ready to tackle pressing environmental issues.

A detailed programme and further information can be found on the website.
