Panama GBC’s Activities Contributing to Sustainability

Monday 18th May 2015

Panama GBC and SUMARSE (Panama chapter from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development), with the support of ACCADES celebrated the Earth Day with a successful International Forum “Business Eco-Efficiency and Productivity”.

There were speakers from two recognised companies in Panama, La Casa de las Baterías and Cemex. Both of them exposed successful cases about Eco-Efficiency in their own companies.

The Executive Director of the Panama GBC, Roberto Forte, spoke about the recently published WorldGBC report “Health, Wellbeing and Productivity in Offices: The Next Chapter for Green Building”. There was also a representative from SUMARSE presenting the topic, “Setting Models for Sustainable Environmental Management in Companies”.

The international touch was given by two speakers from Guatemala and Costa Rica. Andres Prera, LEED Fellow and former President of the GGBC and Ana Quiros, current President of GBCCR, made an outstanding video conference about a case study in Guatemala and environmental product declarations (EPDs) respectively.

On 17 and 18 April, Panama GBC also organised the first 2015 LEED Green Associate exam preparation seminar. They successfully trained 38 professionals from different backgrounds. This comprehensive seminar provided eight modules of study plus study guides and sample exams, giving participants all the necessary tools to satisfactorily pass the accreditation exam.

The preparation course was so successful that Panama GBC are repeating it, with registration opening at the end of May to prepare professionals for the accreditation exam in August.
