WorldGBC launches Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards for 2016

Thursday 14th January 2016

The biennial Awards, which were first held in 2014, showcase and celebrate the achievements of businesses and innovators in the region which are leading the way on sustainability in buildings.

The Awards are divided into two categories: the Business Leadership in Sustainability Award, which recognises companies which are truly integrating sustainability into their business models and contributing to the transition towards a sustainable built environment; and the Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance Award, given to pioneering green building projects that deliver a range of benefits through a holistic approach to sustainability.

60 per cent of the world’s population - some 4.3 billion people - live in the Asia Pacific region, and more than 2 billion of these live in urban areas. That figure is set to reach 3.3. billion by 2050, making it one of the most important areas for the future of green building.

Terri Wills, CEO of WorldGBC, said: “With significant growth expected over the next three decades, the Asia Pacific region will be at the forefront of our efforts to create buildings that ensure a high quality of life for people, whilst minimising their impact on the planet and providing opportunities for business.

The WorldGBC Asia Pacific Network of Green Building Councils and their corporate members are already working together to deliver groundbreaking projects and improve the sustainability of buildings in the region – and these Awards are an opportunity for those businesses to be honoured and receive recognition on a global scale.”

The Awards are the only ones to recognise green building achievements across the whole of the Asia Pacific region, and the 2014 Awards were hugely successful, with over 128 nominations from 15 countries in the region.

Nominations, which must be submitted through a Green Building Council, close on 15 June 2016. To download a nomination form or for more information, click here.
