Commit
Commit to only owning and occupying assets that are net zero carbon in operation, maximising embodied carbon reductions and compensating for residual upfront embodied emissions where appropriate, by 2030.
Disclose
Measure and disclose annually on the group's website energy consumption (scope 1 and 2 emissions) of each leased/owned office, in addition to whole life carbon emissions as appropriate. Identify performance gaps and steps taken to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
Act
Develop and implement carbon emission reduction strategy for operational and embodied carbon, including identifying means of reducing energy demand (eg requiring more energy efficient equipment) and moving to renewable energy providers. When considering renewing/new lease or renovation options, assess energy performance of alternatives, and select only those with high energy performance potential, and achieve maximum emissions reductions in upfront, in-use, and end of life embodied carbon, as steps towards achieving net zero whole life emissions.
Verify
Verify energy consumption and carbon emissions data using an independent certified third party.
Advocate
Advocate by showing how reduction in embodied carbon is achieved in the design of new buildings through delivery of the core structural and civil engineering design services. Demonstrate design leadership to advocate for net zero low embodied carbon designs, and for use of whole life carbon assessments to inform design decisions.
