Join the #RaceToZero and help the building and construction sector achieve breakthrough net zero targets

2021 is the year of COP26, bringing an unprecedented opportunity for the building and construction sector to demonstrate its contribution to achieving Paris Agreement goals.

And we need your help to demonstrate the existing leadership action from the built environment.

You can do this by:

  1. Joining the UN’s Race to Zero
  2. Becoming a Frontrunner in the Race to Zero by joining the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment

The COP26 High Level Climate Champions (HLCC) team has set a sector breakthrough ambition target of 20% (by revenue) for each sector participating in the Race to Zero, which includes the building and construction sector.

Join the Race to Zero

The Race to Zero is the UNFCCC’s global campaign, rallying leadership across all sectors to support a zero carbon recovery, as well as building momentum to a decarbonised economy ahead of COP26.

The support of this campaign will send a resounding signal that collectively, businesses, cities, regions, and investors are united in meeting the Paris goals and creating a resilient economy.

The World Green Building Council, as representatives of a global-action network advocating for sustainable buildings, therefore encourages all stakeholders from the built environment to join the Race to Zero — showing your support and commitment to a sustainable, net zero economy.

Become a Frontrunner in the Race to Zero by joining the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment

World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment (the Commitment) is a frontrunner initiative within the Race to Zero.

By joining the Commitment, your organisation will be recognised as a frontrunner in the Race to Zero.

However, official recognition in the Race to Zero requires participating in a scheme that covers all organisational carbon activity, not just the built environment.

Therefore, Commitment signatories must also join one of the following routes, in order to set a company-wide net zero emission ambition (addressing Scope 1, 2 and 3) by 2050 or sooner:

  1. Businesses: Business Ambition for 1.5 C – Our Only Future, The Climate Pledge and Exponential Roadmap Initiative
  2. Small and Medium-sized enterprises: SME Climate Hub
